MEDICAL CODING



                                    Medical Coding is the process of converting a patients' healthcare diagnosis and process into alphanumeric codes. These codes make up for the whole payment purpose. Medical Coders extract information from the doctors notes, lab results and test results and transform these information into codes. Medical billers bills these codes to insurance companies to claim insurance for payment purpose. 

Medical Coders uses a set of previously assigned for coding purposes, they includes,

ICD codes or International Classification of Diseases : These codes are set of diagnostic codes set by WHO, which contains symptoms, diseases, illness and causes of death.

CPT codes or Current Procedural Terminology : These codes denotes procedures done during a healthcare process.

HCPCS Codes or Healthcare Common Procedural Coding : These codes are used to denote the equipment used, products and services during a healthcare procedure.
